Worship With Us

We strive to love and celebrate God and one another as one family in Christ and to do God's will in the world.

Worship

Our worship services have been described as "relaxed traditional", with each service ending in a closing circle... Everyone joins hands around the sanctuary, receives the benediction and sings a short song or verse.  The last words spoken at each service are
Shalom . . . . . Hebrew
Salaam . . . . . Arabic
Shanti . . . . . Hindu
Vrede . . . . . Afrikaans
Paz . . . . . Spanish
Peace . . . . . English
These words, hanging on banners around the sanctuary, are a constant reminder to all of us that peace is possible when we are willing to recognize and respect the diversity of God's creation.

Communion

Our Communion table is open to all Christians who wish to know the presence of Christ and to share in the community of God's people.  It is served on the first Sunday of each month, during our ten o'clock morning worship service.

The United Church of Christ Book of Worship reminds us that "the invitation and the call [to the supper] celebrate not only the memory of a meal that is past, but an actual meal with the risen Christ that is a foretaste of the heavenly banquet at which Christ will preside at the end of history."

Some visitors from churches which believe communion should only be celebrated among Christians who are in full doctrinal agreement may not choose to participate and their decision is respected.

At Hillcrest Church, music is not performed but rather woven together with worship. It is a place where voices come together in thanksgiving and praise, actively celebrating the presence of God.

Music is a channel for the Holy Spirit, reflected in the energy and enthusiasm of the choir. It is actively built on a strong tradition of faith with a repertoire including traditional, well-loved hymns from the New Century Hymnal as well as familiar anthems.

Jazz Sunday, celebrated every year on the Sunday after Easter, is a favorite annual event, consisting of Dixieland-jazz style music, woven throughout the worship service.
